Seun Kuti + Egypt 80

The youngest son of the Nigerian Afrobeat innovator Fela Kuti, Seun has stepped into the spotlight. With funky, soulful, driving, African rhythms and his dad’s old band Egypt 80 behind him, Seun’s a force to be reckoned with. Featuring keyboards, guitars, a punchy horn section, interlocking layers of percussion, and a female call-and-response chorus, this eighteen-piece incarnation of Egypt 80 sounds like it did on Fela’s later recordings, but with a crisper, more modern sound, and atmospheric samples that nod at contemporary hip-hop.
